This 3 hr class is offered monthly and covers basic restraint and biomethodology of mice, through demonstration and hands-on training. Rats will only be restrained. This workshop covers the same skills as the Rodent Handling and Injection Workshop plus several other injection routes, blood withdrawal, oral gavage, and identification methods. It is an excellent opportunity to learn and practice basic techniques for working with rodents, and can serve as a refresher course for those who have not performed hands-on work in a few years.
Only APPROVED animal handlers are permitted to pre-register and attend.
Pre-registration is required by emailing animalwelfare@virginia.edu. Space is limited and the roster is filled on a first-come-first served basis.
Please do not register to attend both the Rodent Biomethodology & Rodent Handling/Injection Workshops. Determine which workshop best suits the needs of the animal handler and register for one. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.
Schedule
*If an animal handler registers for this workshop and fails to attend (does not show up), the individual will be ineligable to attend the workshop for up to 1 year. Reasonable explanations will be considered. Be courteous to others on the waiting lists and contact animalwelfare@virginia.edu if you are no longer able to attend 24 hours before class (if possible) and you will be eligible to re-register for the next available workshop.
