OAW manages the access to room B-044 in the Pinn Basement Vivarium. The room is available to researchers for performing rodent surgical procedures, technical procedures, tissue harvest, etc. The room is not approved for biological or chemical hazards. Reserving use of the room is required and occurs within an electronic shared schedule. For access to the room and the scheduling software, a short 15 minute training session is required with OAW. This training is offered monthly. Pre-registration is required by emailing animalwelfare@virginia.edu.
The room contains a rodent X-ray irradiator for total body irradiation prior to bone marrow transplantation. The equipment is managed by Dr. Golam Mohi, and irradiator training is required in order to schedule use of the equipment. Email Dr. Mohammed Sayem (gzj9vb@virginia.edu) to schedule irradiator use training. The animal use protocol must contain approval for the use of the irradiator prior to scheduling training. Individuals interested in using the irradiator must complete both room access training with the OAW and irradiator use training with Dr. Mohi's laboratory staff.
